Ammonia as hydrogen carrier for transport application

As the interest in hydrogen to help decarbonization of transport sector is growing fast, new methods for its storage a key point improve diffusion many contexts, investigating innovative methods. Ammonia promising solution, as content per volume unit higher than stored liquid form; furthermore, ammonia does not require cryogenic temperature nor high amounts energy liquefaction. In this study, two different plant layouts have been investigated, considering case study an ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion feed bus station composed ten buses (106 kg H2/day). end, techno-economic analysis performed investigate Levelized Cost Hydrogen production from cases and evaluate most feasible solution. For both layouts, following results are obtained: (i) optimal size main components; (ii) global efficiency; (iii) purity H2 obtained; (iv) cost. Finally, effect investigated economic feasibility best solution large-scale refuelling stations (2000 H2/day), which more representative future implementations.
